May 12, 2026Church Giving Fees FAQ: At-Cost Payment Processing and Pricing
Clear answers about interchange, effective rate, pricing tiers, and what you'll see on your monthly statement.
Pricing Basics
Most providers add markup on top of interchange. My Well uses Interchange Plus Zero, which means we do not add extra basis points to card interchange.
The result is a lower effective rate for all churches, and a statement that is easier to explain to leadership.
Interchange is the base cost set by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and the banks for processing credit and debit card Gifts. Every processor pays it, and rates can vary by card type, debit vs. credit, rewards cards, and how the Gift is processed.
The difference is what gets added on top. Many providers wrap interchange into a flat rate, which can hide added margin. My Well passes interchange through at cost with 0% markup because we are a nonprofit, helping churches average around a 1.3% effective rate on credit and debit card Gifts, with 0% ACH/eCheck so more of every Gift stays in ministry.
Interchange plus pricing separates the true interchange cost from processor markup.
With My Well, that markup is zero. You still pay interchange, but My Well does not add extra profit on top of it.
Your average effective rate is the simplest way to see what you are really paying across all cards, fees, and transactions.
Take your total fees for the month and divide by your total card volume. If you want, we can help you calculate it from your statement.
Pricing is month-to-month and based on volume. In addition to interchange at cost, My Well includes a monthly ministry access tier plus a $0.30 per transaction fee.
- Less than 100 transactions: $49/month
- 101 to 250: $99/month
- 251 to 500: $149/month
- 501 to 1,250: $249/month
- 1,251 to 2,500: $349/month
- 2,501 to 5,000: $499/month
- 5,000+: $499/month + $100 per additional 1,000 transactions
The Giving Platform and Gateway are priced for transparency, using the same at-cost approach.
If you want a quick estimate, we can size the best tier based on your monthly gift volume and show you what that looks like compared to your current provider.
This is a flat per-transaction fee applied to each processed gift.
It is listed clearly so you can see it, track it, and forecast costs without guessing.
Yes. We believe faithful stewardship starts with clear and transparent pricing. That is why My Well does not charge a percentage fee for ACH/eCheck and remains committed to helping churches keep more of every Gift in ministry.
In some cases, ACH/eCheck Gifts over $25,000 may include a 0.15% to 0.20% fee, depending on your account setup.
If your church regularly receives Gifts over $25,000, reach out to your dedicated Second Mile support team member. We can review your setup and help you understand the best path forward.
Many churches choose to offer a 'cover the costs' option so givers can offset processing expenses if they want to.
This is optional and can be turned on or off based on your church's philosophy and communication style.
You will see your volume, payouts, and the fees that make up your effective rate.
The goal is clarity: interchange, gateway, and platform fees are visible so leadership can understand what you are paying and why.
If you use the My Well Platform or Gateway, your Admin Portal is where your team can track gifts, schedules, giver activity, and platform reporting.
Some accounts also use a separate merchant portal through our payment processing partner for payout reporting, monthly merchant statements, transaction reports, and PCI compliance status when applicable.
If you are not sure which login applies to your church, reach out to our support team and we will help you find the right portal for your setup.
